I am planning on visiting Europe and will try to take in as much music history and performances as possible. I will be coming in the Summer and was going to go to London, Paris, Salzburg and Vienna. i was wondering which orchestras I should see, who will be playing during the summer and also what historical monuments relating to music I should see. Also what other cities would be worth visiting from a music history point of view. Thanks!

Sounds like an amazing idea! I would maybe add Zelazowa Wola or Warsaw, Poland and Leipzig, Germany. Of course Paris and Vienna are probably the two best spots to check out.

Enjoy yourself!

Or Ireland...EVERYONE should go to Ireland at some point in their lives!

Just kidding (well, kind of). Is there any chance you could drop by Budapest? Personally, I would *love* to visit Hungary and see the Liszt Academy/take in a concert of some of the local gypsy music.

Hmm, but really, I can't help you much. Sounds like a great trip!

Agreed with Goldberg, everyone should go to Ireland someday, I'd LOVE to go there too...

The cities you want to visit are nice, but VERY expensive (especially Vienna). Vienna is beautiful, but eats out of your wallet..

If you enjoy natural beauty, a visit to Switzerland (my home-country) cannot be missed. There is never a bad time to come.. The Swiss Alps along with the many beautiful lakes, streams, rivers, glaciers and fields form a truely magnificent landscape. It's a small, but beautiful (and very cultural) country, unlike any other in Europe.

I have been all over western Europe and would recommend a visit to many places, among my favorites are:

Venice (also not to be missed!)
Vienna
London
Edinburgh (lots of Scottish history)
Paris
Florence
Rome

The Scottish countryside is gorgeous, and I'm told that of Ireland is as well. I've never been, but would love to go some day.
