Well one should be certain to gives Brahms a lot of time, as his music sort of "grows" on people after a while, even though it may not be as immediately appealing as that of other composers. However, this may obviously not be the case for some people. Even though I enjoy Brahms much more than I used to, I still have the problem of many of his pieces sort of losing focus. Usually, I either like the middle section of some piano pieces, or the outer sections, but usually I do not enjoy the entire piece equally. So I sometimes have a "let me get through this section so I can reach the section that is actually interesting" attitude to his music when I play it, which is not very good but I cannot seem to avoid it. |
