with limited pianist knowledge/experience, I very much enjoy the playing of Horowitz, Richter, Tomsic, Cziffra, and Yundi Li
there's probably a bunch more, but I'm lazy and can't recall now and have much more to explore

Without a doubt, CZIFFRA! Anyone on the forums can tell you that (heck, just look at my avatar), but I must say Cziffra has had a greater effect and influence on me than any other artist to this day...not only do I recognise him as one of (or "the" as I would say in a more casual conversation) the best pianists in the last 5 decades, I would also consider him one of the most misunderstood and even underrated.
But, other than that, I'm quite a huge fan of:
Gyorgy Sandor
Godowsky
Gould
Hamelin
Volodos
Artur Rubinstein
Michelangeli
Tatum
Hough
Libetta
Kuerti
And, as always, it seems like I'm forgetting some other big names...

More I listen to Pollini, more I believe that he is only good for certain works... I wish he was the same pollini as he was after winning the Chopin comp...

The one thing my favorite pianists have in common is their excellent techniques and full command over the instrument. That is essential for me. The differences are in their dramatically different styles and interpretations. These five muthaf*ckas best represent everything I love about piano music.
#1: Gilels
Gilels seems to produce the most miraculous sounds of all pianists, so he's my #1. Beethoven sonatas are the best I've ever heard. Brahms is untouchable.
#2: Cziffra
His technique was nearly as good as Hamelin's is, but he was more willing to UNLEASH. His Liszt is incredible; exciting as well as sublime. Comme has told me that the ZIFF recorded some 'KAN. We can only hope it surfaces one day.
#3: Horowitz
Imaginative, creative, original. His Horowitz in Moscow CD was one of my first, and triggered my interest in piano music.
#4: Hamelin, (AKA: Dré, Da DOC, André 3000)
Unbeatable technique, true to the composer's intentions. He's certainly not as wild as Cziffra or Horowitz, but I don't find him boring at all. His tone is pure, and beautiful. His repertoire is commendable. He's a super-pimp-Pollini-on-crack, IMHO.
Honourable mention to Arrau for his Beethoven, Brahms, and TEs. Some of his stuff is too slow for my taste though.

I like most of the great pianists (not to be confused with most famous)
but my favourite has always been Horowitz.
