Here's a place to write what you have been composing lately. Right now, I'm composing a Missa Brevis in A for Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Choir, Strings, and Continuo, which I might dedicate to Chozart , for her love of such music. I've been very inspired lately, and I do think I've created some exquisite melodies to suit the timeless words of the Mass. It's being notated entirely by hand, and I'm almost finished the rough draft; soon, I'll be working on the final copy .

Wow, that's great.
I'm working on a Piano septet( 2 Violins, One Viola, 2 Cellos, Contrabass). It's in Cminor, I have finished the first movement. Now, I'm working on the 2nd movement which is in F-sharp minor, and also on the fugue for the lasytmovement.

I'm working on my composition which I have no idea what the form is and all I know is that it has 2 themes in the whole piece and it sucks and harmony is incredibly lacking and then Comme comes and he says he's heard this somewhere before.

I'm going to attempt my first composition soon and it will be the easiest form of composition: a variation.
I'm thinking of either doing Variations in C Major or Variations of all Keys by starting in C Major, and then changing the pitch through all 24 keys. That would be a very long piece; but it'd be cool.

I'd think that I'll start workin on my first composition soon as well.
I don't really know what it will be yet, I'll figure that all out before, though.

I'm working on a nocturne I started a few weeks ago, but due to school, it's progress is impeded. I'm gonna finish tomorrow hopefully, and you guys can listen to it! I think I'm doing good with the music, but I have no experience at all in form or harmony.

well i went to the piano and nothing good came to me right away and finally i came up with this small part(crude interpitation, i couldnt acsess my recorder so i hand inputed into midi really quickhttp://www.geocities.com/joviansystem/x.mid maybe i will continue it tommorrow, do you think i should?

I think you should.
I'm working on a piece that I call "Rondo Fantasia" although it is neither a Rondo nor a Fantasia. I just call it that because I don't know what else to call it and mostly the people that I showed it to don't know what Rondos or Fantasias are.

I have some advice for you, TheRach (as usual ); I tell you, through all my experience in earnest composition, when working on a piece, concentrate on composing it, on the individual components of its structure and invention, rather than deciding on a title for it. That should come much later, after revision and editing and completion of the music itself . I'd like to hear your piece, by the way, when it is complete or near completion so I may give you some helpful critiques on how to improve certain areas of interest .

Yeah, by the way, the piece is the piece that I was asking, "Is this piece written by me or did I hear it somewhere else?" I'm just making it complete now.

aww thanks! Sounds good ^_^ Can't wait to hear it
You better make some good alto and tenor parts.. I always watch for them, particularly the altos, whenever I hear choral music. Oft they are overshadowed, underacknowledged, or simply.. not good enough
And although I am a soprano (mezzo), I love the harmonies presented by the altos, so I'm always purposely listening for them.
As for tenors, I like to see if I can pick out a single voice, especially when they sing falsetto. Plus, I notice they're often droned out by the powerful bases, when their parts are usually so beautiful.
Well I hadn't been thinking of composing really.. but my cousin wants me to sort of magically - with my amateurness - transcribe Liszt's "La Campanella" to guitar o_O
I tried 'teaching' her the beginning by giving her the key, humming the theme, and telling her what to do exactly with each hand.. so it was sorta like Chozart's variations on Paganini Etude No.3. lol.
Well I thought that would be too difficult & tedious to transcribe that piece, especially since I had never really transcribed before (well.. sorta.. for violin & cello I kind of did in the past for my friends).
So I'm thinking I'll finally get around to writing a piece, which is inspired by the introduction of "La Campanella", and just play around with some of the themes ~ but it'd be for guitar. I thought of doing it in either c# or d# minor, .. maybe leave it in g#.. but I like c# for some reason.. easy to work with. lol.
I imagine that would be very nice for guitar; it would lack things from Liszt, and have what I bring to it (whether or not what I do is any good, we'll see ).
