What are some particular recordings that you could not live without? I currently don't have too many, and would like to get some more, by other composers as well. What would you suggest? I would like to get some concertos, and maybe some Mozart sonatas...
This is currently what I have:
-Almost everything by Chopin
-A few pieces by Debussy
-Schubert impromptus, symphonies and a few sonatas
-Several Beethoven sonatas
-A few pieces by Liszt
-Mozart symphonies

Must have in terms of Pieces, not recording:
Chopin: Ballades, etudes, sonatas, nocturnes, concertos, mazurkas, etc.
Debussy: La Mer, Pre to an afternoon of a Faun, Images, nocturnes for orchestra, preludes for piano, Suite bermasque
Mozart: later symphonies, piano concertos, requim
Beethoven: complete sonatas and symphonies
Liszt: TEs, Transcriptions

Well, here's mine:
All Alfred Brendel cds that I have. All Karajan Cds. That's all, I can live without Cziffra or Horowitz sometimes, but these two are my fav. Life without them is hell for me.

Arrau's beethoven and certain liszt recordings (concerti, gnomenreigen)
both of gould's goldberg variations and other bach recordings
Rachmaninoff- his recordings of his own concerti, solo pieces, Chopin, isle of the dead etc
Cortot- his Chopin
Ashkenazy/fistoulari Rach 3
Argerich Rach 3 and Tchaik 1st
Cliburn Rach 2 and tchaik 1st
and much more but it would take me too long to type it all out

In terms of performers, the complete recordings of Brendel, Gould, Hess, Gieseking, Hoffmann, Kempff, Lipatti, Tureck, Weissenberg, Horowitz, Cziffra, Cliburn, Ashkenazy, Cortot, Rubinstein, Rachmaninoff, Arrau, Argerich, Uchida, Earl Wild, Godowsky, Busoni, Paderewski, Rzewski, Gavrilov, Lhevinne, Lamond, Moisiewitsch, Friedman, Sofronitsky, Richter, Michelangeli, and Lugansky are most recommended by me, with recordings of Stephen Hough, Marc-Andre Hamelin, John O'Conor, & Leslie Howard following shortly.

That's a long list . Any Mozart sonatas or concertos? Which are your favorites?

Also add Brendel for the PCs, and Karajan is the best choice IMO.
