Hello, Philip Daniel and all other big fans of BACH.
There is a DVD from the BBC with all the 48 preludes and fugues.
Book 1 -
1st half - Andrei Gavrilov
2nd half - Joanna MacGregor
Book 2 -
1st half - Nikolia Demidenko
2nd half - Angela Hewitt
It hasn't come through yet, but I have seen them on television.
It is basically wickid, but some people may object to the style of camera work, which often wanders around insanely - which is comedic genius.
The great dude, Gavrilov, is the most insane - each of the pieces have interviewed intros, and he talks about one of the preludes - it's like that ...how do you say...teleportation crap' - hahahaha, this is the unique style he represents.
Also, during one of the fugues, he looks insanely jolly, like a 10 yr old girl....it is indeed quite insane.
This dvd is a collection of both MUSICAL and COMEDIC genius.
I recommend it, and i wish to discuss it.

I have never seen this DVD, though I have heard Gavrilov's, Demidenko's, & Hewitt's interpretations of the Well-Tempered Clavier, and I recommend them heartily. I play selections from the Well-Tempered Clavier every single day on my piano, as it is a bit of a ritual for me. I play piano more and listen to recordings less . I'll keep an eye out for that DVD, though; it sounds very nice.

perfect picture and sound quality
da genius of it, is dat u can hear 4 different styles of bach playing
da only objection dat u can possibly have with it - is the style of presentation - they choose to focus on the surroundings of the pianist just as much as the pianist themself.
but the surroundings are very moody and wikid.
the moody purple hinted dark room that the Bb minor of the 1st book is played in is perfect for the music.
and the 1st prelude and fugue in c major are played by gavrilov in this pure white room - again PERFECT for the music.

It sounds interesting. I might want to get this DVD if possible, since there's no large collection of classical music DVD's that are accessible to me. But I like videos where they show the hands of the pianists often, rather than their face or the piano or surroundings, since most people who buy the DVD's are amatuer pianists anyways.

That sounds very interesting, I'd be curious to see how they changed the mood to fit the music, how do the other pianists do?.. other than Gavrilov?

I hate BBC for holding up all the great piano videos.

Some Canadian people prefer Angela Hewitt to Glenn Gould.
