Yeah, I agree. Though, I will say that I think Volodos is definitely a worthy "second choice" to Horowitz for the transcriptions; they could be played a lot duller and controlled than Volodos. Believe me: I saw Lang Lang play the HR2 transcription live! Bleh. What's even worse is how the next day, a critic praised Lang Lang for playing the music technically better than Horowitz (which is probably true) and even with more excitement...oh, it was disgusting.
Ahem; sorry, I'm getting off subject. Has Volodos recorded the Saint-Saens Danse Macabre transcription?

Just to get back on topic for a moment:)I have to agree that of course Volodos used alot of editing in his HR2 whereas Horowitz is live. Regarding the "Stars and stripes forever", I still think volodos's version is better but it is probably just due to personal taste, and just as I said before I too feel that Volodos is somewhat uptight and reluctant to unleash "it" which I think is sad. But regarding color and drama I think Volodos has it all.
But I probably shouldn't debate you(Thracozaag) too much because you are much more experienced and probably more musical than me so I'll keep quiet now;)
And oh, I do think that Horowitz is a much better transcriber than Volodos(I think he good too just not as)and making pieces sound better that their original versions without being just another showpiece.

The (live?) Rach 3 thats on the other secret Russian site is fantastic...it's probably my favourite modern interpretation.
