SMA has sucky editions. I'd rather buy quite frankly, at least for pieces that I know I love and really want to play.

I agree. I usually download sheet music for pieces, when I'm initially interested in learning them. But if after a while I decide that I'd like to pursue learning the piece, I'd much rather have a good Urtext edition (Henle, usually).
