Analogized to other concertos? Not that difficult, if compared to Rach 2 and 3, etc. But compared to other solo works, difficult. I would say at least 9 out of 10.

How about Rach 3?

Probably very difficult though, considering it is one of the most difficult pieces in the piano repertoire. Probably 10/10 at least. :)

I'd rate it somewhere between 8-9 out of 10.

Rachmaninov's Third Concerto is very tough, but the difficulty of the piece lies (nowadays) in playing a decent interpretation that will stand out amongst the other gazillion recordings of this piece, moreso than just playing the notes themselves.

Very true, lots of people play that concerto, but only a handfull of good interpretations are available.

Which is harder, Chopin etude op. 25 no. 1 or Schubert impromptu no. 3?

They are somewhat different in difficulty and techinique, so it is hard to compare.

The general idea and strucuture is the same, having accompanient and melody in the same hand. Bringing out the melody. I would say the etude is harder because of the speed. I dont' realy know though. There are trills in the left hand for the schubert which are difficult. Just sight-read through both and see!

I've said this before, and i'll say it again:

DIFFICULTY RATINGS are 100% USELESS, unless you clearly state the level of SPEED and ACCURCY you desire to achieve.
