[ , I have trouble playing white keys in between black keys, if my fingers were a bit narrower, this would never be an issue.[/quote]

Yes Pete, I think you need an adequate hand size to play the piano or to be a best provided your brian and nervous system work well with it.

I can only just reach 10th, but my fingers are narrower than yours, so no problem to play in between white /black keys..

With my own expereince and my friends in concert profesion so as other well known pianist, it seems a broader hands is the factor rather than long fingers. Claudio Abru is one example. Idret brett(slim but agile hands)
Ramaninoff is one of the unusal hand span 12th. but so as Willham Kemp. Shoberg...

How about Yuni Li and Lang Lang, I am sure Yunis hands is not large but managed to win 2000 Chopin international piano competition in Warsaw.
And 2nd in Liszt competion.

So my conclusion is, you can only DO WHAT you have you got. Its the gift from God.

If you are double jointed you Definitely have Ideal hands. Being Double jointed not only lets you stretch your fingers in awesome ways, But it lets you play really fast. Which is useful for Chopins Etudes (e.g "Harp","Ocean","Octive","Bee" Ect). :D

Yeah... Huge Hands are great, But They sometimes can make a little bit harder to perform.
Like in the middle of a concert When I go to hit an Octive, I'll naturally hit Ten keys instead of
Eight.

Yes, I do that if I'm not paying attn. My most natural harmonic interval is a M9. The problem is one of the piano's keyboard, of course.

Hand size is mostly a function of one's height, I assume. I'm 6'3" and have appropriately large hands. I can (uncomfortably) play an augmented 11th. I've known some who can reach an augmented 12th! Unfortunately, (or fortunately) they don't play the piano. Those who can palm a basketball ala Micheal Jordan probably are handicapped by that size at the piano, I once again assume.

Thanks, Your are definitly right about height Corresponding with your hand size. I tower at Six foot six, with a hand span of 12''. And I know My height also ties in with My shoe size, Because I wear a
Size 13 in a half.

Wow 12"! That's indeed very large. What interval can you reach?

My hand span is just over 10" and I wear a size 12 shoe. My hands and feet are, I assume ( ) small for my height.

Yeah, its every Drummer's Dream to have long Fingers, You know for pulling off insane Stick Tricks. And With 12'' I'm able to Stretch over 12 white keys, I'm not really sure what interval that would be.

That would be a perfect 12th! I'm glad you have drummer's dream hands, it must be nice not to have to struggle with what a shorter-fingered drummer would.

As for my hands, they've seemed to have gotten lean and very muscular (Bruce Lee muscles not Mr. Universe muscles) with all the Scarlatti I'm playing these last six weeks. It's wild, I think I have perfect piano hands. Like Rubinstein's hands. Regardless, I practice more than he ever did and have ten percent the repertoire to show for it.

Thank you
I didn't take very many piano lessons, therefor I don't know very much about intervals.

And I wish you the best of luck with the Scarlatti sonatas. I took a look a those sonatas
the other day and IMO they look a little too Difficult. (For me at least)
