I work on it. I slllaaaavvvee away. And then I listen to Kapell play it with such infinite easy, such perfect facility.

And he plays it with more poetry than Dante wrote in his entire life.

Who is Kapell anyway? Is it the black guy with a show on comedy central?

I was only joking, naturally. And I don't like Chapelle, I think his humor is stupid. (Like so many of the present stand up comedians).

That's why he is Kapell. Because he can do things we can't.

Nope. :P

He's William Kapell cause that's his born identity- he's famous because he was insanely good- and he was insanely good because he worked insanely hard and was (obviously) extremely talented as well.

Well.

I've almost got it memorized, and I recorded it for the first time today (sorry, but no- you absolutely don't get to hear. Still too many mistakes! :P)

Kapell's recording of this mazurka is my favorite ever, I've listened to it quite literally over 100 times, his recording of 50/3 is what made me love Chopin's mazurkas more than anything else. Indeed, I was rather afraid that my interpretation would end up being an imperfect copy of his with no originality at all. Therefore, I haven't listened to any recordings of the mazurka for about a month, and felt guilty whenever my teacher praised my ideas in it (which is frequently).

So imagine my surprise when I compared my rec to his- and found them utterly different!

I went through all of my mazurka recs and found that my interpretation is actually closest to Lipatti's, which I've listened to like.. twice. lol. It's cool, because Lipatti is one of my favorite pianists (next to Kapell), but its also a bit weird considering I'm not really familiar with his recording at all, and they're SCARILY similar, aside from my rec being 1 min. longer, due to elfups.

But anyway.. so yeah. I still think Kapell PWNZ it, but it's nice to know that I'm not ripping him off, and have some originality, and apparently a romanian streak, and stuff.

Whats the point of trying to be original for originality sake?
Why try and differ from, or improve upon, something that is in your mind perfect, just for the sake of being original?
