We all love it; we all hate it- and why would one want to be embarrassed by pronouncing a word wrong? Here will unfold a guide to pronuciation, for reference. you may add words if you want, and I'll try to edit them into the first post. Have fun! weeeehhh

Hmm, I disagree with a few of 'em..

I pronouce Frederic Chopin as follows...

Frederick Sh-uh-pain (same nasal sound as if saying pain in french, referring to bread) - I say it in a very French way, even when speaking English

Rack-mah-neh-nawv

I think a better question is how to pronounce "Chozart".

lol, just as Jeli said, either "Shows-art" or "Chohz-art" (or "Chose-art") is fine by me.
When I made it I intended it to be "Sho," since the first part derived from Chopin.
But I think the "zart" ending - deriving from Mozart - makes the "Cho" as in ("Chose" or "Cheese") acceptable as well, heh.
Both sound good to me, so whichever y'all prefer ^_^

here are my pronounciations of a few composers' names...
Bach: "BaH" (the h being a little stronger than normally, but not too excessively or anything, lol)
Balakirev: "Ba-la-kI-rev" (quick, short accent on the i; rolled, or "Russian r" (lol))
Chopin: "sho-pEn" (the e carrying the accent)
Czerny: "ChEr-ny" (the "ch" like in "cheese," and "Russian r")
Dvorak/Dvorzak: "DvOr-jak" (short accent on the o; the "j" like French j in "je" or "Jacquelin". I say it this way because this is how the slavs say it; once I had mentioned him to my mom and then she was like "Oh, you mean Dvorzak?" because I had pronounced it Dvorak)
Liszt: "Lis-c" (the "c" being like the "ts" in "Tsunami")
RacHmaninov: "Rah-mA-ne-nov" (the same h as in my Bach; slight accent on second a)

Chopin should be pronounced chaud pain with french pronounciation
show pan sounds bad but at least its better than chopping :wink:

I hate it when ppl pronounce Chopin as 'choppin' GRRRR

In french pronounciation I would rather say 'chat-pain'

There was a nice guy at the old CF that had Show Pan as a nickname. It finally makes sense!

Yep, I remember him! He's an oldie member. Show pan was there before I even started classical music foruming. (lol) Wow, i've been doing this for more than a year! don't i feel special? lol
In total, I've had about 1800 posts in total. w00t! 1/15 of tempest's! lol
