Yes it is impossible. But to be realistic for the accomplished pianist (in one performance):

Rachmaninov- Variations on a theme by Chopin
Godowsky- Passacaglia
Saint- Saens- Etudes for the LH

Intermission

Rachmaninov Nocturnes (all 3 of them, about 3 minutes a piece)
Chopin- 2 Scherzos

End.

Though I did not invent it--and I certainly could not play it--, I truly admire the programme of Horowitz's legendary return concert in Carnegie Hall (1965).

yeah, I couldn't decide actually whether I wanted to end with HHTL or da contra- contra was more.. well, BAM! sounding, so I figured it'd be a good ending note. But I dunno maybe you're right, haha.

And yes, traumeswirren is insane (but I was listening to xiff bust it out so I couldn't not have it on the program! ). Fable would be a better choice, especially (as in true elf fashion ) I knowish it.

So you think it'd be good? Awesommmeee.

I'd send you like recs of all the pieces (if you dont have them all), except my computer is having its annual dying routine, and I'm really not sure when it's going to konk out for good (I'm madly backing up my itunes, as you can imagine). So I will after I figure out what's wrong with it (and fix it, heh).

I'm mulling over the possibility of doing a competition next year or the year after (or.. both, hah. what can i say- I like horses), one of which requires 30 min. of solo stuff and the other like an hour to 2 hours (they let you repeat pieces if you want in different rounds)

So I'm thinking maybe I should learn/finish/brush up (as the case may be) some of this stuff...

Bach: toccata in e minor; toccata in g major; toccata in c minor; concerto in d minor (transcribed from Marcello); concerto in g major (after vivaldi)

soler: sonatas no. 21, 23, and 90

beethoven- op. 10 no. 1; op. 26

Albeniz: Evocation (from Iberia)

Schumann: Fantasiestuckie (probably like 3 of these) and maybe one or two of the op. 10 concert etudes; allegro, abegg variations.. mmmm....

Chopin: op. 30 & op. 50 mazurkas; rondo ala mazur op. 5; maybe some etudes

de falla: serenata andaluza

liszt- valse impromptu

schubert-liszt: hark hark the lark (lol)

and liszt's transcription of this random russian thing which is totally cool- the nightingale

what say you? lol too baroque heavy to win comps, I bet.

Bach: "Aria variata alla manieta italiana", am, BWV 989 ()

Haydn: Sonata CM, Hob. 50 (the one I play)

Mendelssohn: Rondo Capriccioso, EM

Medtner: Fairy Tale, Op. 26 No. 1

Woooo it'd be awesome.
