Help with Scarlatti sonatas!

My teacher wants me to."I definitely think the Scarlatti is a good idea--pick two in the same key (or they can be in parallel major/minor) that are in contrasting moods (one slow, one fast)."

Can anyone suggest some. I am into minor pieces in general. So maybe that helps.

Also if its cool then could you help hook me up with music or recordings. Thats jsut extra what i really need are some good suggestions.

Sonata in D minor, K.141 (L.422), Allegro.

I saw a video of Argerich playing it, is incredible! It is definately one of my favorite. At the CMA, there is a live recording that you can listen to, by Sekiya (if you're a free member). If you do choose this one, you must listen to Argerich play it.

I've started learning it. It has rapid repeating notes, and crossing of hands... kind of hard.

I might be able to suggest another one to contrast, as you said, if you like this one.

I really like that one. Do you know of one to contrast it? or just any otheres in general.

Sorry to take so long to reply. The only slower one I know of to contrast K.141, in either the same key or relative minor, is:

Sonata in D minor Andante K.249 (L.67)

Here are some other good ones:

Sonata in B flat major Presto K.47 (L.46)

Sonata in B flat major Cantabile K.544 (L.497)
Sonata in G minor Grave K.88 (L. 36) (note: has no repeat.)
Sonata in G minor Moderato Cantabile K.347 (L.126)
Sonata in G minor Andante K.436 (L.128) (note: key changes to D minor (or F major?, not sure how to tell the difference) then back.)

Sonata in B flat major Andante / Allegrissimo K.351 (L.S.34)


Another really nice slower one is:

Sonata in G minor, there is no "K" or "L" number, though, it just says Erstausgabe (First Edition), in Book 1 of Henle's Scarlatti Sonatas (I have books 1, 2 & 3 , with 72 sonatas).

K. 531 (L. 430) in E major is nice and very easy to learn.

Currently, I'm learning an f minor one K.239 or something. Lots of scales, but it's pretty easy. dynamics w00t!
