Anti-Spam Measures

Postby PianistSk8er » 02 Jun 2009, 11:46

As you may have noticed there has been a large amount of spam on this site recently. In order to fight this, I have implemented the following:

- More rigorous visual confirmation (CAPTCHA) is required for registration.
- Users must allow 30 seconds between posts (unless moderator or admin).

And, perhaps most importantly:

- New users must have their first post approved by a moderator or an admin. After this they may continue posting without the need for approval.

With any luck this should help reduce the amount of spam that gets posted. At the very least it should keep it from appearing publicly!

Thanks!

This is proving to be quite effective. I can delete a spam-bot (along with all of its posts) before any of it is visible to the public. The only downside is that legitimate users have to wait for their first post to be approved before any of their posts are visible... I suppose that's the price we pay in today's world of Nike and "World of Warcraft" spam-bots... :(
